Left foot surgery – 5 weeks

Actually it’s a little over five weeks but I wanted to write about my healing. I seem to have hit a wall I think. The bruising, even though it’s gone down, is still very much hanging around my left foot. If I’m on my feet for too long (over 2 hours) I still get that horrible deep pain in my heel. I also noticed that when I press on the inside of my heel bone it still feels very bruised.

I leave for San Francisco on thursday. I booked the trip to hit two weeks after I was in regular shoes. I thought I would be fine because my right foot was fine at the two week point. My right foot didn’t have this much bruising though! I just pray that between now and thursday my bruising goes down. It’s my first time in San Francisco and I had planned on doing a lot of walking ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Left Foot surgery – Day 28

A whole month has passed and today the boot is off!

Took x-rays of both feet (I was worried that the right foot stent may have shifted because of all the extra pressure I’ve been putting it under while the left foot heals) but everything seems fine ๐Ÿ™‚ Good to hear. The doc wants me to keep wearing my orthodics for the next 6 months to help with healing. Also I can’t run or jump for at least 4 months which is fine by me! He wants to see me again in a month to see how I’m progressing.

I mentioned the deep heel pain I’ve been getting on my left foot but we both think it has something to do with the amount of bruising. Once the bruising goes down the pain should subside. It’s been a month since the surgery and the bruising is still pretty bad, I’m actually pretty shocked but he didn’t seem worried.

Tomorrow I go shopping with a friend which means a lot of walking on my “new foot” – but I’ll take it slow and will probably have to ice when I get home!

I still have up to a year before I’m fully healed but this part of the journey is finally over. It’s seems so long ago that I took the first step on my path to better feet but it’s actually only been 10 weeks or so. Every day my foot gets stronger and I hope from that my body gets straighter! Any updates I do from now on will be at month intervals.

I hope this blog has helped anyone who was thinking about getting this surgery done. So far I’m soooooo glad I did.

Good Luck! ๐Ÿ™‚ x

Left Foot Surgery – Day 22

Back to auditioning! Yay!! Although I still have to wear the boot which, as you can imagine, gets a lot of interest. I’ve been telling everyone I had a pole-dancing accident!!!

Went to Target with a friend yesterday and ended up walking a lot. By the end of the shopping trip I did get pain deep in my heel (almost like Plantar fasciitis) so when I got home I took a mobic andย ย iced my foot. Today it was still a little tender but I think the pain is coming from all the bruising that I’m sure is inside my foot. Talking of bruising, the inside of my heel looks better but the outside looks the same. There isn’t too much swelling this time as opposed to my right foot. I wonder why?

Left Foot Surgery – Day 19

Just wanted to post some pics of the bruising. It’s definitely worse than my right foot was, which means that my foot is a bit more painful – especially when I’m sleeping and my foot gets caught on the sheets! ๐Ÿ˜ฆ

Bruising and scar on my left foot

Left foot inner heel bruise

This time the bruising goes all the way to my toes – crazy!

Yesterday I went to a film festival and ended up waiting in lines a lot – I probably stood more than I have in the past month. As you can imagine, by the time I got home I had to ice my foot. I did drive myself there though and I haven’t driven for over 2 weeks so that was fun. Other than that everything is moving along nicely! ๐Ÿ™‚

Left Foot Surgery – Day 17

Ended up showering by myself yesterday, one week ahead of schedule from the last surgery,! yay! I was going to wait until today but decided to just go for it. ย I also took off the sticky sutures on the scar. The scar seemed a little open to me so I didn’t scrub it too hard in the shower and then put some antibiotic ointment and a band-aid over it afterwards. By the time I went to bed the site had healed up! Had to go to a birthday party yesterday and ended up walking around quite a bit without crutches. As you can imagine, today my foot is pretty bloody sore ๐Ÿ˜ฆ Taking it easy today.

Left Foot surgery – Day 16

It has been so much easier getting around in the boot this time. I can actually walk without the use of crutches however I’m using one crutch for the next couple of days just to take it easy. By Monday I’ll start walking around “crutch-less”!!! My left foot seems to be progressing so much quicker than my right foot. I’m not sure if that’s because I knew what to expect or because it’s not my dominant foot – either way I’m just very happy with it! Tomorrow I can shower without the waterproof boot which I’m very happy about that. Right now my foot is wrapped so I can’t see the extent of the correction. Guess I’ll find out tomorrow!

Left foot Surgery – 2 weeks

And I’m in the boot! Hurrah! Had my two week appointment with the doctor today to remove the sutures. Everything seems fine. Took some x-rays and the stent is in the right place. He said I can be weight-bearing as soon as I’m ready and I can take a shower without the waterproof boot starting sunday!! Yay!

The past two weeks have gone pretty slowly for me but that’s cause it’s been a lot of sitting around. It’s definitely been easier than the last time though so that’s good. Hopefully walking in the boot will be easier as well.
